| As ZXRider said in his post, there is a special tool for removing those plugs. They are a tapered square hole and the shank of a ratchet drive will slip and round out the hole making it a BIG job to remove. We've had people who had to weld a square shank into the plug so they could remove it with a spanner. The whole concept of the 14mm hex head was to enable the use of the same 'ring spanner' for removal/refit of ALL the 300zx oil plugs. You're quoting a lack of space in the area next to the transmission filler plug and yet you're shoving a great fat lump of 1/2" ratchet drive into that small space to remove the Nissan plug. A 14mm ring spanner is the perfect tool for the job when you have a Monster magnet plug set (and you have all the room in the world) I strongly advise people NOT to use a ratchet when tightening transmission/differential plugs. These things are a 'tapered' plug. We had a young bloke a few years ago who was madly tightening his Nissan differential drain plug with a 1/2" ratchet drive..... until he split the diff housing !!!!! These plug sets were specifically designed for the 300zx and a LOT of thought was put into exactly what was needed for the perfect plug set .
